Theft

Theft under Florida Statute § 812.014 means knowingly obtaining or using property of another with intent to deprive. The charge level depends on the value: second-degree misdemeanor (petit theft under $100), first-degree misdemeanor (up to $750), third-degree felony ($750 to $20,000, or firearms/vehicles), up to first-degree felony for $100,000 or more. Defenses often turn on lack of intent, claim of right, value disputes, or mistaken identity in retail-theft cases.
