Florida's Stand Your Ground law (§ 776.012) removes the duty to retreat before using deadly force when a person reasonably believes it necessary to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or a forcible felony — anywhere they are lawfully present. The immunity hearing under § 776.032 is a powerful pretrial remedy: if granted, the defendant receives immunity from prosecution and civil suit, plus attorney fees. The defense must show a prima facie claim of self-defense, shifting the burden to the State to prove force was not justified.
